People: 90% Mestizo, 7% indigenous, 2% Garífuna/ black, 1% white
Language: Spanish, Carib, Amerindian Dialects
Religion: Predominantly Roman Catholic, plus other Christian sects some indigenous forms of worship. Christian evangelicalism is increasing in popularity.

Honduras is country with great natural beauty- Caribbean beaches, cloud forests and picturesque villages. However it is also a country with some big problems- poverty (44% of the population live on less than US$2 day, 21% on less than US$1), crime and corruption. Large amounts of money are channeled into Honduras through international loans and aid, yet the problems remain.

It is “an online portal for ideas on ways to help empower the people of Honduras… also an engaged network of individuals and groups working on grassroots responses to the country’s social and economic needs, leveraging our time, energy, expertise, experience, creativity, talents, contacts, and willingness–”human capital”–as catalysts for change.”

projecthonduras.com exists as a website and through yahoo and facebook groups. In conjunction with Special Missions Foundation, Inc, projecthonduras.com stages an annual conference in Copan Ruinas, Honduras, for the express purpose of encouraging networking and partnership between organizations and individuals working in Honduras.
